The Guns Of Navarone - Dimitri Tiomkin (Varese Sarabande)

Screams for a remastered Intrada version. It doesn't have the power and punch I remember the vinyl having through good Marantz speakers.

Anyway, it's one of my favories and an all time, undisputed classic film!

King Kong - Max Steiner / Fred Steiner

As great of a rerecording this is, there's a lot of important music missing. To have included all 70 plus minutes of Max Steiner's score would have required a double LP in 1976. They should have produced a double LP. First time I've listened to this since my brother acquired a 16mm print of the film awhile back. I know King Kong pretty darn well and was disapointed by the exclusion of the train sequence music.

All hail the Morgan/Stromberg rerecording of the entire score. I have two copies...

John Scott Conducts His Own Favorite Film Scores

A really, exceptional recording.

These days I find I'm able to listen to something early morning before dawn and before dealing with the insanity of the upcoming day. Helps balance the adverse effect of all the unnatural noise and intrusion, really does put things into perspective and keeps it all from getting totally out of wack.
