Intrada Soundtrack Forum

I've recently heard a tiny snippet of a rumour, that there may a Bond soundtrack Boxset released next year? - presumably to tie-in with the 1962 - 2012, 50th Anniversary of the Series?

Are we talking a: SUPERMAN or RON JONES-STAR TREK type of Boxset, here?

I would be glad of any info, big or small, on this potential release,
as this would be an ultimate Grail for me, and I wouldn't want to miss out!

Wow. Really. That would be a huge undertaking to be sure especially since Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me and The Man With The Golden Gun are expensive expansions. Lukas Kendall regrets not doing Man With the Golden Gun and it wasn't expanded along with the others is because they ran out of money to do so back in 2002 and it definitely would've been costly and still is. Another issue is you have album rights as well. EMI/Capitol has the majority of them however they don't have License To Kill which is still under MCA Records' control at the moment, Tomorrow Never Dies has both Chapter 3 and A&M Records, Die Another Day is on Madonna's label, Maverick, The World Is Not Enough is under Radioactive/UMG, Casino Royale and Quantam of Solace are both under Sony at the moment.

I'd love to see a definite box for all the Bond scores but it would cost a fortune to do so. You'd also have to get all the songs and in the case of Tomorrow Never Dies you'd have to get both Sheryl Crow and K.D. Lang's which are excellent.

I also remember Roger mentioning that Intrada isn't interested in doing box sets like these because of the costs involved and I can really see why too. I mean this is a huge restoration, the people who would have the money to do this properly would have to be Capitol/EMI, if they really choose to.

I hope that EON can persuade any publisher to republish all 22 soundtracks, not in huge BOX form, but as 22 separate CDs (of course some must be 2 CD-sets - TND, TWINE, DAD - first which come to mind). Oh, well - they must be unlimited
It is rumored that toys and other souvenirs will be let out for this event, but I think that such titanic work with complete soundtracks will be met by fans with more delight.

Not much, really?

I tweeted with David Arnold a few weeks back and asked him if there were any plans for expanded releases of TWINE and DAD and he told me that there were none at this time. Then again, 2012 is still a ways off so you never know. [Fingers Crossed]

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

My ultimate would be all the Bonds from FRWL to Living Daylights (inclusive of Live And Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, both of which I love) presented in 2 disc editions: complete original film sequence on disc 1, remastered recreation of album program on disc 2. (I thought the album programs made very good albums.)

And for those scores where the complete original is too long to fit on one disc (Thunderball, OHMSS), put the source music and not-in-film instrumentals on disc 2, after the album program.

But do you know why it'll never happen? Because we're not that lucky.

(It doesn't help that it now seems confirmed, albeit perhaps not 100%, that the studio where Moonraker was recorded, ditched all it's old tapes some time ago, Moonraker probably being one of the victims. Sigh.)

I also imagine specialist labels wouldn't be able to get their hands on doing them, because of the EMI arrangement.

Still, I do hold out hope that they will allow someone to at least do a box set of "out-takes", the stuff still not commercially released. Not as nice as having individual 2 disc sets, but at least it would put the music out there.

I don't think there are any actual rumours or facts from official sources, just some wishful thinking from a few posters over on the FSM board.

It'd be great if it happened, but I'm not holding my breath.

I got lucky in a local charity shop today, on the Bond music front:

"THE BEST OF BOND" = A latter-60's, United Artists LP, featuring original score from: DR. NO to YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
I've seen a DR. NO to THUNDERBALL version before, but never this one!

"LIVE AND LET DIE" = Original 1973 United Artists LP
I only had the 1987, EMI, 25th Anniversary of Bond pressing, in my collection

Both were a good price, and in great condition!
