Based on my earlier idea of announcing a title to fans and then taking pre-orders for a month, how about simply saying you have the chance to release “score X” and asking fans if they would genuinely purchase a copy of it by emailing you or running a poll for say 10 days. You could then gauge interest before any licensing deal was done. Then you could move forward and license the title in the rough quantity you know would sell. The downside is fans would know months in advance and the title may take longer to be released. But the quantities would be spot on. Of course you would not need to do this for a Holy Grail type score but the lower quantity titles with limited appeal would benefit.

I was considering bringing over some Laughing Cow brand cheese, with an emphasis on the "laughing."

Perhaps we should start a poll about what cheese is best served with whine. :wink:

I think the grouping of titles sometimes has an impact on how well a title sells. I've certainly found myself buying titles in a Varese club batch that I might otherwise overlook just because they're nestled alongside a must-have release. I'm not entirely sure why. It might be a spillover of goodwill towards the label ("they released one of my grails, so I'll give this one a try"). It might be a false sense of economy ("the additional postage won't be much if I bulk buy"). La La Land even takes advantage of this phenomenon sometimes by offering the title they feel might be a slower seller at a discount to those who buy the hotter ticket. Of course, the titles would need to be from a similar era or genre for this to stand a good chance of working, and I've noticed that Intrada prefers to mix things up a bit and cater for as wide an audience as possible.

I dunno. Reading here and at FSM...seems like the labels pretty much kinda know what they're doing. Some guesses work and some don't pan out. But they're doing a bang up job getting stuff to us.

No matter how long or hard I was working...somehow it wasn't too tough to know when things were coming out and to be able to place an order...if I wanted it...within 12 hours or so. It ain't rocket science.
