A personal plea to both Doug and Roger. You have really been putting out terrific releases lately and I would like to throw my hat in for a request to release the original tracks to Mancini's THE GREAT RACE. I was hoping it would be one of the final releases from FSM, but alas, it is not, but according to Lukas, the tapes are there ready to go. I would imagine it could easily be a two disc set, with overflow and the original album re-recording on the second disc. I don't know about the RCA original release and if there is additional problems or negotiations needed, but a release of this score would certainly make my day, or year or even decade.

That's funny, I looked at this again last night, a good looking Warner DVD. It works just as well as it did when I first saw it in 1965, Mancini's score is real feel good music. A while ago I transfered some music off the DVD, overture, main titles, other bits & bobs & The Sweetheart Tree song. It'll do 'till a proper release happeneds.

I second the motion. This is one of the most joyful scores Mancini ever composed.

I wish Warners would put this title out on Blu-Ray sooner than later.

I remember being at some dinner function with Mancini in the 80s. We got into a discussion about THE GREAT RACE, which I mentioned was just about my favorite Mancini score. He said it was one of his favorite scores too and told me what a joy and how fun that project was. I asked him about that impossible piano part, flying over the keyboard and he told me he prepared a player piano roll as he wanted rhythmic accuracy only a player piano could deliver.

I watched this again about a year ago for the first time in ages and found it a let down. Maybe my sense of humor has changed (though I still love Road Runner and It's a Mad...World) but I found it dated and forced and it just didn't get more than an occasional smile from me.

I'd love to see it released for just one cue--that terrific swordfight scene between Tony Curtis and Ross Martin.

Count me in on a deluxe and expanded "The Great Race" -- one of my all time favorite films and scores. HD Net used to broadcast a gorgeous wide screen, HD, print that stayed on my DVR until it died one day. Beware of the Netflix streamed version -- the last time I checked it was still cropped.

I think Jack Lemmon gives an absolutely amazing performance! Sheer genius.

I would love an expanded release as well, but this one definitely needs the original album included. With a 28 minute runtime it's a very pleasant listen.
