With the recent appearance of one of James Horner's early scores on the double album with Jerry Goldsmith, I thought it would be appropriate to throw my vote in the hat for another one of Horner's early scores: Testament. The film starred Jane Alexander, William Devane and Lukas Haas (when he was really young), Rebecca De Mornay and yes, even Kevin Costner. For those who haven't seen the film it's a very intensely emotional experience and Horner's score is one of his best from the 1980's, in my opinion. I remember seeing the film in the theater but I can't recall an official soundtrack album ever hitting the stores with his score.

I think that release would be a big hit among collectors (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

There was a release in France in the mid 2000's that was done with the agreement of the Gorfaine-Schwartz agency and James Horner himself (the CD was produced by the creator of the James Horner Society owner, Didier Leprêtre). The score was complete and had a special rerecorded suite made in New-York by a smaller ensemble.
I was offered a copy by a very good friend, back then. But what is considered as legal in Europe isn't necessarily considered as such in the USA. Anyway, promo, bootleg, whatever, the music exists on CD.

Unfortunately Cinefonia release was only CD-R with rather poor quality of the film tracks (probably taken directly from the bootleg).

This not a CDR at all. It's a real CD with a beautiful packaging. And the sound quality is okay, considering the age of the picture.

Gentlemen, you're both RIGHT: there was a first pressing of Cinefonia's TESTAMENT and it appeared that it was indeed a CDR ! I remember calling Didier about it, talking with him about this.
So as the CDR was not the reflect of the will of Didier, a second pressing was done, this time it was a real manufactory pressed CD. Guess what, it's impossible before open it to say if your release is or not a CDR !

The problem is that release was legit in France as Paramount France allowed it but it seems that they go over their powers in this affair. I remember that Ford A. Thaxton talked about it on FSM and claimed that it was a unlegitimate release, which probably is on the usa territory - and probably on the rest of the world minus France.

The audio quality of this product was very close to the "romanian" bootleg "Vivo Music". It was not a satisfying release at all but it's my IMHO. I traded it many moons ago.
I would love, LOVE, see it release offcialy - and yes if you ask me - by our Intrada label !
