Intrada Soundtrack Forum

I was reading the thread about the Back to the Future score being posted for free download and naturally that pissed me off like many other Intrada forum members here. Since the web is full of losers like that it didn't surprise me as much as what I came across yesterday while shopping at the Ameoba store in Hollywood. I was doing my monthly "zombie-state-of-mind" soundtrack peruse through their extensive inventory when I came across a couple of surprises. The first was a bootleg for the Three Kings score with music other than the CD Now release. The disc also contained score selections from other Carter Burwell scores, ie: O'Brother Where Art Thou, The Jackal, etc. The cover was obviously printed on a laser jet printer and the disc even had a stick-on label (never good for CD players). I'm sure most of you guys have seen this one floating around EBay or other outlets. Further down the aisle I came across 2 other obvious CDR bootlegs, one for Behind Enemy Lines and the other, a 2-disc A.I. by John Williams.

Resisting the urge to appear indignant (but obviously annoyed) I approached the guy running the department and let them know they were selling bogus product. He appeared surprised and immediately apologized for letting them "slip through." My mini-lecture consisted of explaining to the employee that it's already hard enough to get scores released and if a commercial store like Ameoba starts selling this s*** that not only complicates matters but hurts the real soundtrack companies. To his credit he acknowledged that they looked pretty bogus to him also. Anyway, he slid the discs under the counter but who knows where they'll ultimately end up. The "used" sticker prices on the discs were unreal.

I don't know how common it is for boots to end up for sale in commercial outlets but that sucked. What the hell???

Ironically the Amoeba in Berkeley has had a couple CDrs recently for things like PROPHECY (Rosenman) and if I remember correctly, THE OMEN (Goldsmith) - the real irony is that they had "CD-R" stickers which Amoeba had applied to them.

The CD covers were horrendous - I could not believe anyone would buy them. I was shocked that they (Amoeba) even had them in their bins - which meant someone there had purchased them from a customer and then were priced by someone who supposedly would have a knowledge of the CD. Amoeba knows their values (at least my experience at all three of them).

I saw a 2CD bootleg of "Independance Day" years ago in FYE.

And, of course, FSM is always with the anti bootleg dicussion, but then they started carrying their stock through Screen Archives, who previously to that, had been selling bootlegs all the time*.






* = in no way waht so ever a knock against SAE. There is NO better score CD seller who that kind of customer service and warp speed shipping.
