I've written lengthy posts on FSM about FFShrine, as well as Gamingforce, another site that pirates film music, as well as video game music.

I've only posted on this board a few times (I'm a semi-regular on FSM's board)...

I realize this is wishful thinking but it's always possible that some of these people might grow a conscience some time in the future. I once sent Lukas an idea for a blog entry in which I would've discussed my "conversion" from downloader to paying collector. He said it was a good idea but wouldn't work (for obvious reasons).

It's true - I used to download music from all the file-sharing sites (nothing from FSM because I had no idea what FSM was at the time... ditto Intrada). But a few years ago, for one reason or another, I had a change of heart and said, "Dammit, I'm gonna start buying CDs now, even if I have to wait, and even if I have to get them on eBay if they go OOP." Maybe that's when I realized this was a serious hobby and more than just a passing fad.

I'm the proud owner of a Ron Jones boxset and I paid for it. :)

P.S. Roger and the gang: please reconsider a McCarthy/Chattaway set. I'll buy one in a heartbeat!

Does anyone know if those bastards at that FFShrine site infected the FSM board with a virus? The reason I'm asking is because I tried to send my best friend a link to that thread via e-mail, and THREE times it came back, saying that it was refused. I don't want to get on the FSM site if there's a virus.

They say it is because of the bad economy or "Stickin' to the man." I even saw a post on the FFShrine stating that "art is meant to be shared." They also believe such companies have enough money to take the hit. To be fair, most of this is aimed towards Hollywood and their beliefs towards watching newly released movies on the internet. The problem is, very few people seem to have a grave misunderstanding of the economy and how such business works. In order for a studio or record company to continue releasing films and CDs, they have to spend money and they have to keep making money. It's not like the big wigs" just up and pocket the dough made. It takes money to make something and it takes money to pay those who have worked on it. In terms of movies, this is even worse considering how much people actually work on films.

Basically, in short, this so called idealism is clearly misguided. But it doesn't matter how much money they make, they would most likely download them anyway. We live in a time where everybody wants everything for free, without working for it.

This is not directed to anybody who was desperate enough to find an out of print score sold for hundreds of dollars on ebay or a grail score without a release. I know I've been there. This is about the people who post newly released and available Intrada scores or newly released movies just "because."

A few years ago, there was this scumbag hanging out in front of a local greocery store, selling DVDs of a movie.... THAT WAS IN THE THEATRE AT THE TIME. I called the cops on his sorry ass... he was back the next day, but I don't know if he was ever caught.

I want to express my full support and a big thank you to FSM, Intrada, Varese, Kritzerland, La La Land, Buysoundtrax, Perseverance, Percepto, etc. and hope that the damage done by the parasites of that forum has been as minimal as possible.

As I said in another thread, I do despise bootlegs, thus wanting to make sure I don't have some of those, but I abhorr the illegal sharing of commercially available music more, especially if it affects specialty labels where one can see that the work they do is more a labour of love than done for business purposes.

I'm sure its been mentioned somewhere by now but just in case... NONE of these soundtracks (Ron Jones, BTTF, whatever) would be anything but reels of tape continuing to rot in a studio vault if not for the monies and efforts paid by all of us soundtrack labels to rescue the stuff, license it, transfer and restore it, edit and master it, package and finally present it to the public. Just making these projects break even is challenging, let alone be profitable enough to rescue the next one.

I'm willing to go toe-to-toe with anyone who thinks they're entitled to "steal" it for free.

Not a good thing.

This is just a idea and probably not a very good one... Isn't there some way to encode CDs that make it impossible to illegally reproduce or upload them? I guess the downside of that is not being able to burn a copy for personal use, say for the sake of bringing along in the car when you would rather not risk damaging the original.
