Like the 1974 movie starring Peter Finch and Liv Ullmann, the magnificent score is far too little known. (Maybe this has been rectified to some extent by the release of the movie by the Warner Archives Collection.) The previous incarnations of the soundtrack album have been frustrating, to say the least. (The LP release on the Intermezzo label in 1986 had extremely thin sound; the somewhat expanded CD on the Legend label in 1994 had somewhat better sonics, but still disappointing.) With decent quality music elements (hopefully stored at the Warner music archives) there could be definite improvements. (Though unacknowledged on either the LP or CD, the recording studio was Anvil in England, which probably means the recording engineer was the legendary Eric Tomlinson.) Am I a voice in the wilderness or does anyone else this is an unsung Rota treasure from the '70's?
