While some may describe this as a very economic score, I'd say its understatement is an ideal match for this fascinating, ambivalent and richly textured 1960 movie. One thing that can't be denied: it's a brief score (unless a lot more material was composed but not used). As THE HUSTLER has recently been re-issued (and expanded) I can't think of any other Kenyon Hopkins scores which could be sourced from the 20th Century-Fox archives, so what about a previously released title from Intrada (such as Elmer Bernstein's THE STORY ON PAGE ONE coupled with his music for THE REWARD)? That title only had a playing time of about 42 minutes, so WILD RIVER could easily be added (If available).
