When it comes to creating great cover art for poster art, DVD, Blu-ray, CD releases it seems that the past decade or so the creativity in my opinion has really gone downhill, and lazy would be the better word for it.

Covers just look so blah and well I hate to use the term but photoshopped floating heads. Heaven forbid we don't know who is in the film etc. The whole hand drawn ways that were so bold into the 1980's have been replaced by generic consumer/corporate driven eye sores.

The only place where I feel that great cover art seems to be still alive is with soundtrack reissues. Joe Sikoryak I believe respects great original poster artwork and works within creating and updating and keeping it fresh, and above all interesting.

Iconic images that we recall from our childhood, or the past years when designing poster art was so alive, only seems to be alive when it is represented on the cover of a soundtrack album. Great poster artwork for The Gauntlet was used in the first WB BLU-RAY pressing and has been replaced by a rather shoddy image of Eastwood. Sure the poster art never lived up to the hyped film but it had an energy that can't be replicated.

Just look at artwork used by Paramount lately to sell new Blu-Rays for the Original Versions of TRUE GRIT and Little Big Man and Rio Lobo the artwork is all in the same style and frankly dull.

I am thrilled when I buy a release like Explorers can hold the booklet (trying NOT to finger print it!) I read the liner notes and credits, and I believe Joe upholds the creative process of great soundtrack album covers.

(I love how Joe has his CDs arranged. I arrange my DVD/ Blu releases the same by studio. It is the only way to keep them in a more uniform order.)
