Just to add to Doug's comments; 35 mm MAGNETIC film did not come into common usage until 1954. House on Telegraph Hill dates from 1951 and therefore the music elements were recorded and stored on 35mm OPTICAL film which is sonically a very different animal. That some of today's restorations are as good as they are is both attributable to the talent of our restoration specialists such as Mike Matessino, but also to the sheer luck that comes with sources that are less deteriorated than others. Obviously, the survival rate for all elements across six decades varies wildly from title to title.
