I don't think you can fairly compare the scores from the original "Five-O" series to the new one. There are going to be very obvious differences as to why the music will differ greatly, ie: styles, audience expectations, current television musical styles, artists/composers, etc.
I think the original series' music was awesome! It perfectly fit the series for the 1960's/70's decades that it represented. It doesn't need to be stated that musical trends now are so different than "those days" I'm sure Broughton, Stevens and all of the other guys creating those landmark scores would acknowledge that very thing. Without some kind of progression in style and tempo, the show would lack it's own originality and creativity and therefore probably not last. The same can be said of Brian Tyler's treatment of not only the main theme (which kicks butt in my opinion) but the underscore as well.
I think a score album of the original series AND the current show would be totally awesome. I remember watching the original on television when it first aired and I'm glued to the new one also. There are big differences in the two incarnations of the show but I'm glad for that fact. It would be boring as hell to see a modern show try to completely duplicate what has already been done.... we see how unsuccessful the current trend of film "remakes" have been with a few exceptions..
