I've just received this wonderful pair of CDs, and what a thrill to finally listen to such a classic score masterfully recorded by Nic Raine (as usual) ! The sound is absolutely breathtaking, encoded from a 24 bit recording.
The missing cues were so... well... missing from the original album ! Taras Bulba the album, used to be a fantastic score album on LP and CD, now it's even more an epic lenghty symphony full of surprises and adventures. From the opening turkish invasion to the final (now complete) Battle of Dubno, we now can understand the true value of Franz Waxman's masterpiece, simply one of the greatest golden age score, and we can now be told the complete story of Taras Bulba... thanks to James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine and everyone involved in this gorgeous edition !

This is the album to put next to El Cid (complete edition) in your collection!

Yeah, I'm loving this too! Part of me is still used to the brittle, dry sound of the Ryko version which was my only option on this one for many years. Bruce Kimmel's remastering made a big difference, but this thing is just wonderful to behold. More equals awesomeness in this case, certainly. I hope they sell a zillion copies.

Lucky you are ! This must be fantastic to see and especially to listen to such an experienced orchestra in the film music genre... I wish I could have seen that, but living in Prague must be helpful ! ^^

I also got mine along with Villa Rides! - what a bravura performance on this 2disc set. Its tour de force. Its a difficult score to conduct at such a fast pace and its done nonetheless with great energy and Nic Raine has outdone himself.

Highly recommended for Waxman fans.

Yeah you're right about the fast pace. Usually when a difficult recording like this is done, the orchestra plays slower (smoother and easier). But here the music is played in full speed, just like Waxman intended
I don't stop listening to this CD, it's really contagious !

After CONAN and recently LAWRENCE I'm beginning to really appreciate the quality Tadlow & all musically involved deliver. Amazing listening experiences. I just love the energy that does come over. After listening to the samples I think TARAS BULBA will be my third Tadlow CD and I'm sure it won't be the last. Great stuff!
