Patience, Basil -- the CDs are in storage, and a friend is kind enough to let me stay with him during the cold days, as I normally live in my car. Just wait -- I'll get both CDs in a day or two, and rip all the appropriate parts and have them up to listen to.

Yes, yes, I know... I'm just *really* eager to hear the comparisons between the two, that's all.

Expect a nearly 11 minute audio montage in about 20 or so minutes. I didn't give Randy's score a complete listen, I skimmed threw some of it, but I found it in seven cues. I didn't count other cues were it used the first three or four notes, but then played around.

Sounds very interesting. It seems to be a lift of the first six notes?

Maybe Randy Newman had seen BLT and was inspired by his cousin's score...

I hope for a complete release from Varese someday. They own the soundtrack rights for this film...

Well, there are only seven notes -- doesn't seem to be a resolve, but multiple variances.

Thanks to all for the responses and antecdotes, the most perplexing of which was Newman's viewing it as a comedy or "joke." I had read this before and have never been able to make sense of it. I would guess that he didn't care for the film, as those who don't, usually dwell on the perceived inaccuracies and not the overall enjoyment of the film.

However, I think the one thing that we would all agree on is that this film's score is begging for the deluxe treatment, especially for those who haven't been privy to the unreleased and rejected material. We'll get it one of these days...
