Intrada Soundtrack Forum

I'm not going to readily step into a discussion involving the dyes, etc. of recordable media, nor its lifespan. My ultimate question here is obviously directed to our on-line community and Intrada themselves (and I'd really appreciate their own ideas and/or output in regards to the subject matter) in regards to the mechanically-pressed copies of our musical collections.

Intrada has done a remarkable job at releasing some incredibly difficult and/or evasive projects as of late, but I'm really wondering how long these (under the best-kept of circumstances) are projected to last, and what's next? Where will Intrada be if a compact disc is merely suffocated by the shelf and time that holds it? How does one retain, for a lifetime or more, the musical art presented on the disc? Obviously, as a collector, I'm curious to recognize any steps that can be taken in order to preserve both one's collection and investments?

Any and all thoughts are welcome.

My first handful of CDs, among them incidentally one Intrada release, purchased in 1987, all still play fine.
I've got some CDs where the cover art is a bit faded, perhaps due to the covers being in the sun at one time, but overall CDs appear to be very durable media. Beyond that, the music can be backed up without quality loss on hard disc. Unless a fire or earthquake will destroy it, I am pretty sure that my music collection is safe.

I have the original Polydor Cocoon CD and it still plays fine.

The short answer is nobody knows! I still have a few CD's that I bought in 1984, they look & sound like I bought them yesterday. Another thing not to worry about
