I went ahead and purchased this 2 CD recording of Davis' ballet. It is really a staged film score which is easily on a par with the best work that Carl Davis has done for films and television. Very thematic with subtle tinges of orientalism and well-performed. Some nice long melodic lines in the strings and a heroic theme in the horns. Definitely not Alan Menken. If you enjoy scores like NAPOLEON (the much recorded "Eagle of Destiny" is hinted at) or FIRE AND ICE, you might like this one. Recommended. b. |
