Hello all, this year has been quite uneventful so far in terms of great new movies and great new scores accompanying those movies, so it took me quite a bit of time to figure out a short list of likely and realistic contenders... How about these? Mark Isham for The Black Dahlia Hans Zimmer for The Da Vinci Code Clint Eastwood for Flag of Our Fathers Alexandre Desplat for The Queen Craig Armstrong for World Trade Center I guess Howard Shore won't be nominated due to Scorsese's heavy use of songs in The Departed. Zimmer might not make it due to the music being composed by other guys in parts, and I certainly don't want to see Santaloola and Babel. Anything else worth considering? Where are the Newmans? Where's Horner? CK |

I know you're only talking about the year so far, but since most of the Oscar nominees usually come from films released in the final days of the year, I'm sure T Newman will be considered for either (or both) Little Children or The Good German; and Horner's got Apocalypto. Of your list, I'm not sure about Eastwood's Flags of our Fathers - might it be disqualified because of the significant use of period music? I hope Isham gets a nod because his score is the best of the year, but the film was savaged which might discount it. JNH's last Shyamalan score was nominated, and The Lady in the Water is certainly very good. And I wouldn't discount Oscar-favourite Randy Newman, for Cars. |
