I don't see why a choice composer for Star Wars has to be either/or. Since Disney is going in a totally new direction, a sense of continuity is too stringent. Someone like James Horner or Alan Silvestri would have to compose themes of their own. They would hardly use the thematic material of the old movies, it's not the way they did sequels until now. Maybe just the main theme but hardly more.
Michael Giacchino would completely agree to embrace Williams' themes and compose some of his own. Again, from this point of view, this is still the more realistic choice.
