I talked about this at length on the Disney scores request thread, but I think this is one that deserves its own thread. This is one of my absolute favorite scores; it really holds a special place for me. I loved the film as a child--as I still do now--and the music was always memorable to me. Since then I got the album and have enjoyed it a lot. Poledouris wrote a lush, beautiful score, with the wonderful main theme and love theme, and several other very nice secondary themes. The score has a richness and an atmosphere to it that I can't quite put my finger on, but its simply delightful. I think both the film and score are highly underrated. Thankfully, I got the album used years ago, but now it is out of print and expensive, with a new copy running a good $85 at the Amazon.com Marketplace, $20 used. It was mentioned in the Disney request thread that Poledouris had stated that he recorded 88 minutes of music. If my calculations are correct, then on top of the previously unreleased material used in the film, there is at least roughly 13 minutes of unused/alternate material--and that's not counting instances of tracked music. This is stunning to me. That sounds like a potential gold mine of previously unheard music. I don't know what the situation is with the score, but I do know it was recorded in London, so hopefully that should be helpful. I think a complete release would be incredible, and it would absolutely be an instant buy for me. Any other fans here of this score? |
