For those of us who got into Goldsmith in the 80s, Baby was one of that decade's most disappointing "no-shows" as far as albums were concerned. By the time of the film's release in '85, things were looking hopeful -- more of Goldsmith's scores were getting released than not (heck, even The Lonely Guy got released!). Surely a broad adventure score like Baby would be showing up in the record bins...

But it was not to be.

Happily Varese finally gave us The Final Conflict in '86, while Intrada blessed us with Night Crossing and a new recording of Islands in the Stream a year later. We were thrilled, and grateful...but in the back of our mind was always that question, "when will we get Baby?"

Well its been over twenty years, but worth the wait! THANK-YOU Intrada for this release. I don't even have my CD yet, but this is a score that has stuck in my mind, and since the Baby CD was announced I've been recalling Goldsmith's colorful orchestrations, playful motifs and adrenal action cues. Baby was composed around the same time as two other Goldsmith classics, Legend and Rambo, and it shows. This is one of Goldsmith's most appealing scores, and film music of obvious "standalone" merit -- and I can't wait to hear it!

I've had a day or two now to reflect on how much Intrada and all the hard working folks there have meant to me as an avid collector and fan of film music, and I can only continue to say "thank you" from the bottom of my heart. Two years ago, I had a list of about a dozen "holy grail" scores that I could only dream about having on CD, and Intrada has been second to none in reducing that list to just a few now. It all started to really heat up with the CAPRICORN ONE film tracks release a while back, and the classics since then just keep rolling in: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, THE LAST VALLEY, MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS, SWASHBUCKLER just to mention a few, and, despite all odds, the incomparable 2CD ALIEN and THE WIND AND THE LION releases. Now BABY, which righteously sold out 3000 copies in less than 48 hours- an accomplishment I've never seen before today by any label or title! I'm sure none of us can fully appreciate how much effort you all put in behind the scenes on these- but I know for you, Doug, especially, it was a labor of love. You all have really brightened our days. I continue to be like a kid at Christmas on days you guys announce titles.

What is that? Less than two days?
Must have been handed to a UPS guy that very second.

I can't even get a confirmation about asking for a CD to be set aisde, before it sold out, in a PM to Roger, and I mialed my payment out. But I guess getting over 2,000 orders in less than a day can do that to ya. I was thinking I wouldn't see this for a bit over a week, but maybe not.


Ron, is it as glorious as I've imagined?


I'm actually kind of surprised it sold out. From reading the boards over the years, I was under the impression that most Goldsmith fans did not like this score and that I was in a minority of not only liking it, but LOVING it.
I wonder, had it been limited to one per customer from the get-go, would it have sold out so quickly? Perhaps this was merely an eBay thing.

My box arrived today with Baby, Comes a Horseman, This Girl for Hire, and Chato's Land. Ordered Monday and arrived by noon Thursday....GO HAmsters!!!!

Now I need to order Echo of Thunder......
