Flightplan - James Horner I overlooked this engrossing score for much too long. Those poor pianos! What did they ever do to James? |

John Scott Conducts His Own Favorite Film Scores Listening to some more of this. The suite from the 1971 film Outback is stand out! A good example of why I like film music, original and unlike anything I've ever heard before. Something that's becoming increasingly rare in current stuff I think. |

Not film music related but worthy of mention... The Greatest Ragtime Of The Century; Classic Ragtime, Blues And Stomps (Solos from rare piano rolls played by Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton,Eubie Blake, Fats Waller, James P. Johnson and Jimmy Blythe (Musical Heritage Society CD) I don't know what I could say that would do justice to this recording. Really exceptional stuff, it's like listening to ghosts play. Digitally recorded in 1987 on a 1910 Steinway 65/88 note player from scarce piano rolls recorded in the early 1900's. I love this kind of stuff! |

At the moment I'm listening to the Cat Stevens songs from/for HAROLD AND MAUDE. I'd welcome a CD release. Maybe some day ... |

Since about a week I am in a total Barry-mood. Before that it was Silvestri, maybe that explains it ![]() - Body Heat (FSM) - Goldfinger - Moonraker (very loud when it comes to "Bond Lured to Pyramid" and "Flight Into Space") - Last Valley (Intrada) - The Deep (Intrada) Some Delerue here and there of which I think "True Confessions" & "Her Alibi" are quite nice. No love so far for WOMEN IN LOVE (Quartet). and HELLFIGHTERS (Intrada) which is quite nice and has a great "Main Title". Oh and I rediscovered GIU' LA TESTA (Duck You Sucker / Fistful of Dynamite) by Ennio Morricone. Of which I can't get enough of "Duck You Sucker" and "Beggars March". Phil |

Kelly's Heroes, Dirty Harry and Magnum Force - Lalo Schifrin I've been hooked on Schifrin. The FSM release of Kelly's Heroes is some of the best money ever spent. Even though the film tracks are there, I find myself often going to Lalo's recordings for the original LP release. There are a couple of really fun adaptations in there. |
