Fantastic podcast BTW, The irony of HTD containing a virtual treasure trove of John Barry. Incidentally Roger hinted at the following release as being “somewhat related” to HTD. If it happens to be SUPER MARIO BROS by Alan Silvestri, I’d be floored!! ![]() |

Infamously terrible movies owned by Disney? Yavar |

Kind of a major stretch there. ![]() Despite the Marvel and Lucasfilm connections, I suspect the music rights for "Howard the Duck" are probably owned by Universal anyway. |

I'd be very interested for Roger to expand on how complicated the licensing was for this one. Yavar |

Cool. I had long worried that Marvel and/or Lucasfilm might complicate things, and then hoped that Disney owning both now would help. But it turns out they weren't involved at all! Yavar |

I expect that Marvel just licensed out the rights, much as they did with Spider-man and X-Men. They probably have some sort of arrangement for royalties, but I suspect this film doesn't bring in a lot of them. Disney may have some ownership interest in the film now that they own Lucasfilm, but I doubt it amounts to much as I'm pretty sure Universal pretty fully financed the movie. It does still show up in the "productions" section of the current Lucasfilm website. It's probably a safe assumption that any rights Universal had to the character expired years ago, so Disney almost certainly fully has the rights now. In fact, the character appeared briefly in both "Guardians of the Galaxy" films as well as a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo during the final battle in "Avengers: Endgame". |
