Most of the original TV scores I ever wanted were from Goldsmith and Herrmann. Miraculously, most of the Herrmann work I've known about has been released already; and since my understanding is that Goldsmith's material for The Waltons is irretrievably lost, I can be satisfied with as much of his efforts for TV as we've already seen out. I have no doubt that some label -- probably Intrada rather than Varese -- is already deep at work on the Thriller series, so let's see whether it emerges during my lifetime. (I'm in good health now but am older than a lot of you here.) For me, that pretty much leaves only The Rifleman -- which I brought up in the Suggestion section years ago and someone else has already invoked within this current thread. Since Herschel Burke Gilbert's terrific cues probably would be too short for CD release, something like a release of cues for 1950s-'60s Westerns from the Four Star Productions company might be more practical. That way, all of Gilbert's Rifleman material could be accompanied by his occasionally poignant cues for Sam Peckinpah's brief The Westerner series, Goldsmith's Black Saddle (a nice early theme, at least, apparently under his "Michael Hennigan" pseudonym -- or however he spelled it), or any worthwhile music created for other series from that outfit. |
