This is why I specified "as far as I know", but you're bringing interesting facts to the discussion of which game had the first original orchestral score TerraEpon. I wish I could listen to those scores to check if the orchestra is real and not emulated by synthetizers like many games used to at that time. Also, are you sure it was original music composed for the games and do you have the name of the orchestra and/or the dates of recording ? The Lost World was recorded on feb 15 and 16, 1997, and the producer Patrick Gilmore wrote this in the liner notes of the CD : "the orchestra made history by playing it, making it the first original video game composition to be performed by a full orchestra." |

Speaking of "acoustic" music score for video games, there was LORDS OF THUNDER released in 1993 on the TurboGrafx-CD which used a real metal band for the soundtrack (and that was pretty good !), music composed by Satoshi Miyashita. I think that's probably the first time we can hear this on a video game at this period...(ok, that's not orchestral music, but it's an "acoustic" score !) |
