While some may describe this as a very economic score, I'd say its understatement is an ideal match for this fascinating, ambivalent and richly textured 1960 movie. One thing that can't be denied: it's a brief score (unless a lot more material was composed but not used). As THE HUSTLER has recently been re-issued (and expanded) I can't think of any other Kenyon Hopkins scores which could be sourced from the 20th Century-Fox archives, so what about a previously released title from Intrada (such as Elmer Bernstein's THE STORY ON PAGE ONE coupled with his music for THE REWARD)? That title only had a playing time of about 42 minutes, so WILD RIVER could easily be added (If available). |

I wonder why the score wasn't released on vinyl in 1960? Kenyon Hopkins had a lot of LP's released around that time. |

I have been requesting this score for many years. Yes it is on the short side, but not as short as THE GUNFIGHTER. It is music that supports the story and location of WILD RIVER superbly. Here's hoping that Intrada or Kritzerland can (?) and will do something about getting this score on CD. |
