In all likelihood there may not be scope for an Expanded Edition, as almost all of Moross' music from the movie seems to be present on the 1965 soundtrack album, especially as the composer worked under straitened conditions because of the reduced time permitted him due to considerable re-editing of the movie. (Hans J. Salter composed an additional 15 minutes of music, though only 5 minutes of that appears on the original album.) Up till now the 1995 Japanese pressed CD may well have made the best sonic case; the long discontinued Varese CD of 1994 sounds as though it may have been mastered directly from vinyl, and sounds heavily filtered (especially in the quiet passages). So even if we get a re-issue of the LP program, sonically improved of course, I think it would be quite welcome. (Maybe we could get a double bill soundtrack courtesy of Universal Music: the LP program of Laurence Rosenthal's BECKET would make an ideal companion, as that too is long out of print.)
